Με βάση το κλασσικό πλέον ψυχολογικό πείραμα του 1960 στο Stanford, ερευνητές έβαλαν παιδιά σε ένα δωμάτιο και τους έδωσαν ένα ζαχαρωτό, λέγοντας τους ότι μπορούν είτε να το φάνε κατευθείαν, είτε να περιμένουν τον ερευνητή να επιστρέψει.
Αν μπορούσαν να συγκρατηθούν, ο ερευνητής θα τους έδινε ένα ακόμα ζαχαρωτό!
Τα συμπεράσματα όμως είναι περισσότερα από τα προφανή. Αποδείχθηκε ότι τα παιδιά που ολοκλήρωσαν με επιτυχία το τεστ με το ζαχαρωτό, εξελίχθηκαν σε πιο επιτυχημένους ενήλικες σε σύγκριση με τα υπόλοιπα παιδιά που έλαβαν μέρος.
